Lighting with Purpose, Crafted with Heritage

Design with purpose. Craft with soul.

meet the founder

Imran Akram

I’m Imran Akram, founder and creative director of Artisan Light Project. As a British designer with Pakistani heritage and nearly two decades of experience as an interior architect, I’ve always been fascinated by the stories objects carry, the hands that make them and the meaning they hold. After years of working in the design industry, I felt a pull to create something more personal, a way to connect my professional expertise with my cultural roots. I wanted to design lighting that not only illuminated spaces beautifully but also empowered the people behind it.

Meet the ARTISANS

From waste to wonder

Each component is handcrafted in Pakistan by skilled artisans from rural communities woodturners, brass smiths, weavers, and painters who’ve spent generations perfecting their craft. They work with reclaimed materials such as timber, brass off-cuts, and palm leaves transforming what would otherwise be waste into objects of quiet luxury and enduring beauty. These components then journey to the UK, where we assemble, test, and certify every light to British standards.

Design with purpose

illuminating lives

It’s a collaboration that merges Pakistani craftsmanship with British design integrity, a story of two worlds coming together through sustainability, skill, and soul. With each light, we help preserve heritage, protect traditional skills, and sustain both artisan communities in Pakistan and local manufacturing here in the UK. Every purchase supports a circular economy one that gives back to people, materials, and the planet. Artisan Light Project isn’t just about lighting; it’s about design with purpose a collection of objects that illuminate spaces while celebrating human connection, creativity, and craft.

  • Sustainability That Shines

Lighting with respect for people and planet.

Every ALP light begins with a simple principle to create beauty responsibly. We source reclaimed timber, recycled brass off-cuts, and natural palm leaves to craft each piece, keeping materials in circulation rather than sending them to waste.

Our lights are designed for longevity, assembled and certified to British standards, and built to last reducing environmental impact through quality and care. By choosing ALP, you’re choosing sustainable luxury thoughtful design that looks forward as much as it honours the past.

  • Giving Back Through Every Light

    Empowering the hands that create.

Each light connects you directly to the artisan who crafted it. A fair share of every sale goes back to the Artisans in Pakistan supporting family livelihoods, preserving traditional skills, and funding education for the next generation.

By partnering directly with our artisans, we ensure that every piece makes a tangible difference to real lives. With ALP, your purchase is more than illumination it’s an act of empowerment, sustaining heritage and shaping brighter futures.

  • Reducing Waste, Preserving Heritage

    Design that closes the loop.

At ALP, we believe design should give back to materials, to culture, and to community. By upcycling discarded charpai timber, repurposing brass off-cuts, and reimagining woven palm baskets, we transform waste into wonder.

Each light celebrates traditional craftsmanship, merging heritage techniques with modern circular design. What once might have been forgotten now finds new purpose, proof that sustainability and artistry can exist beautifully together.
