In-House Design Team
British Form. Pakistani Craft.
For its restaurants in Barking and Bradford, MyLahore wanted lighting that reflected its British Asian identity without relying on themed décor.
The result is a bespoke pendant that brings together two traditions. A contemporary wire shade, inspired by classic British industrial lamps, surrounds a reclaimed truck art lantern, hand-painted by artisans in Pakistan. Together, they create a feature light that feels playful, authentic and unmistakably modern.
The Brief
Create decorative lighting that would become part of the restaurant's identity while complementing the bold interiors and open kitchen environment.
The lighting needed to add warmth during the day, create atmosphere into the evening and offer something guests would immediately recognise and remember.
The Solution
Rather than using conventional decorative pendants, we designed a bespoke fixture that combines two contrasting influences.
The outer wire shade references the simple steel lamps traditionally found in British workshops and industrial spaces, while the colourful lantern celebrates Pakistan's rich truck art heritage.
The pendant has been designed as a flexible product family, allowing designers to specify:
- Wire shade styles
- Powder-coated colours
- Braided cable colours
- Ceiling plate finishes
- Lamp holder finishes
- Suspension lengths
This flexibility allows each installation to be tailored to its surrounding architecture while maintaining the distinctive character of the handcrafted lantern.
The Outcome
Installed across MyLahore restaurants in Barking and Bradford, the Truck Art Wire Pendants have become one of the interior's defining features.
By combining British industrial influences with traditional Pakistani craftsmanship, the lighting creates a memorable focal point that reflects the restaurant's unique identity while encouraging guests to look up, explore the space and share the experience.
